In 2002, I found myself unsatisfied that I was on the right path of achieving my personal and financial goals. My dad had just started a handyman business in a small town of Virginia and invited me to join him. So I took a leap of faith and headed for home.
It became quickly apparent that Dad had tricked me. What Dad had going for him was a cute name and idea. Being the very motivated person that I am, I went out into the community and started knocking on doors.
I quickly found a very unique nitch where my services were needed. My next step was to start developing the brand in a professional image. The public needed someone they knew undoubtedly would be on-time, their word was good and had the ability to perform home maintenance tasks.
My role quickly changed to a management position. I then reached a point that I wanted to expand our brand. I chose to expand our business through a franchising system to develop The Honey Do Service, Inc.
I took the next year to get legal with the FTC and trademark our brand name. I realized that knowing how much to charge for the tasks at hand was a must. So we wrote estimating software and named it "Tom's Tool Box".
